The reasons why Luke Shaw wore a green vest during England’s training camp in Germany on Tuesday have now been revealed.

England received a significant double fitness boost ahead of the opening match of Euro 2024 after John Stones and Shaw trained with the first-team squad.

Shaw, who has not played since February due to a hamstring injury, will be a welcome addition to Gareth Southgate’s side given the lack of left-backs in the squad.

As he trained with his teammates on Tuesday, fans quickly noticed he was the only player wearing a green vest before finding out why.

According to The Sun, Shaw was ordered to wear a green vest to mark him as a player he should not make contact with because he was in a vulnerable state.

England stepped up preparations for the tournament in Germany on Tuesday afternoon

It remains to be seen whether Shaw will be available to start in England’s opener against Serbia on Sunday evening given his long spell on the sidelines.

During Tuesday’s training, Shaw kicked a ball for the first time in five months, boosting hopes that he could be available to be included in the squad for next Thursday’s game against Denmark.

Shaw did not complete the full session and was an outlier during the closing stages of training.

Nevertheless, his participation in Tuesday’s full session is seen as another positive step towards his recovery.

Kieran Trippier will replace Shaw at left-back at the start of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Saka’s concerns about his fitness appear to have improved as he smiled in the German sunshine with his teammates.

There were concerns about Saka’s match sharpness and whether he was ready for action after missing Arsenal’s final game of the season.

The team received a pep talk from Southgate before all 26 started training

Southgate and his side landed in Germany on Monday evening after a weekend’s rest following their shock defeat on Friday.

They are located on the outskirts of Blankenhain – over 30 kilometers from Jena – in the Weimarer Land Spa and Golf Resort.
