Despite receiving a red card in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City, Leandro Trossard is available for Arsenal’s next Premier League match against Leicester.
The striker was given a second yellow card eight minutes into first-half injury time after fouling Bernardo Silva and clearing the ball.
It was reminiscent of the red card Declan Rice received against Brighton earlier this season after pulling the ball away from Joel Veltman before taking a free-kick.
Trossard has been heavily criticised for his misconduct, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright voicing his disapproval of his “bloody stupidity”, while Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher said the same in a more family-friendly analysis on Sky Sports.
However, Trossard told his teammates in the dressing room that he had not heard referee Michael Oliver’s whistle for the restart, according to The Mirror.
Leandro Trossard will not miss Arsenal’s next Premier League match despite his red card against Manchester City
Why? Because his suspension is only for one match in all competitions and their next match is in the Carabao Cup.
It was believed he attempted to delay the restart of a free kick by kicking the ball away
Mikel Arteta has criticised the “worrying” trend of stars being sent off for delaying the restart of matches, but he should still be able to select Trossard for the clash against Leicester at the Emirates on September 28.
That’s because Trossard’s suspension, which came after two yellow cards, only applies to one match in all competitions – and Arsenal’s next match is in the Carabao Cup.
The Gunners host League One club Bolton in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Ian Evatt’s side will be spared Trossard’s tricks in their first match against Arsenal in 12 years, having last met in a 0-0 draw at the then Reebok Arena in February 2012.
Arteta was furious that Trossard was ordered to play during the 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, where a tap from John Stones in the 98th minute denied his team three points.
But the target of his annoyance was not Trossard himself, who received a number of hugs from the coaches after his departure.
‘It’s so obvious that there’s no need for me to comment. It’s the second time. I’m 1727186213 expect 100 Premier League games to be played as 10-a-side, or 10-a-side. Let’s see,’ he said.
Arsenal’s players reacted in disbelief, despite knowing the rules of football well
Declan Rice had been sent off for the same offence against Brighton a few weeks earlier
Mikel Arteta directed his frustration at the officials rather than Trossard for his behaviour
“I think it’s very clear what people think about the red card. It’s not my job to come here and judge what happened. My job is to survive in one of the most difficult environments in football, for 55 minutes, and try to get things done to survive.
‘It’s happened twice in five games already, which is very worrying to see in the top league.’
