Adam Wharton’s brother has embarked on a massive road trip to Germany to support him during England’s Euro 2024 campaign this summer.

Crystal Palace youngster Wharton attracted attention after a string of impressive performances in midfield last season and was included in the Three Lions’ final 26-man squad under Gareth Southgate. He may make his competitive debut this month.

Just a few months ago, Wharton, still just 20 years old, was plying his trade alongside his old brother, Scott, at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

Scott is currently recovering from extensive knee surgery and was told by doctors he could not fly to Germany to see Adam in action.

But that doesn’t stop him from finding a solution, with Adam taking a long road trip across the continent instead.

“I haven’t been able to fly for two months and it’s been six weeks,” Scott said via ITV Granada.

‘So me and my partner drive to Hull to catch the ferry to Rotterdam and then drive into Düsseldorf where we are staying for the first match.

‘So it’s more of a road trip, I’m looking forward to it!’

Adam, like his brother, progressed through Blackburn’s academy.

Wharton joined Palace during the winter transfer window in a transfer worth £22.5 million and made 16 top-flight appearances last season.

Despite playing just 30 minutes for England in a friendly after being introduced as a substitute against Bosnia, Southgate included the youngster in his Euros group.

“Honestly, I feel like a proud dad,” Scott added. ‘The family are clearly extremely proud of him and how far he has come in such a short time.

‘I don’t think anyone could have predicted what would happen to him at the start of the season.

‘So the fact that he’s coming to England and playing with some of the best players in the world is just incredible.’
