Revealed: What UK cities will look like in 2050, according to AI – so, is your hometown set to change?

From Big Ben in London to Edinburgh Castle, many UK cities are instantly recognizable thanks to their distinctive buildings.

But these famous landmarks could be hidden behind massive transportation systems in just 26 years, according to artificial intelligence.

Brighton-based film editor Duncan Thomsen used artificial intelligence to imagine what five of the UK's largest cities could look like in 2050.

The resulting images feature an array of futuristic transportation systems running through cities, resembling scenes from the movie Blade Runner.

“I like the idea of ​​the future of Blade Runner, it brought a smile to my face,” Mr Thomsen said.

Duncan, from Brighton, used Midjourney through the Discord app to create the images.

The AI ​​was asked to create a future city in the UK in 2050, preserving historical architecture and predicting public transport based on current ideas.

Then he added the vehicles that would operate in the surrounding areas.

He said: “I wanted to show how people between the ages of 20 and 30 will design their future today as people between the ages of 50 and 60 design their future.”

And with so many things available to them like artificial intelligence and design architectures, it will impact every country on the planet.

“I wanted to show how you can preserve a British city and make it of global interest to people.

“They're all really exciting.” London will always be somewhat of a trendsetter in design.

This is not the first time Thomsen has used artificial intelligence to visualize Britain.

Last year, the film editor used Midjourney to create portraits of “ordinary people” in 13 counties.

He wrote certain phrases to achieve results.

For example, for Tyne and Wear, he wrote: “Tyne and Wear as a portrait is distinguished by their clothes, hairstyles and personalities.”

He also added: “Sociable, outgoing, proud of his local roots and interested in music, art and football, the fast people never refuse a night out with friends.”

The AI-generated images show Londoners as trendy and cool, while Somerset residents appear more bohemian.

The people of Oxfordshire are portrayed as young and urban, compared to the people of Norfolk who are seen as old and rural.

“Somerset is fun because I like the color and the beard on the guy – he made me laugh,” Mr Thomsen said.

“I also liked the Scots and the Welsh, because they are so special.”
