Prince William ordered the England players to keep calm and carry on during a secret speech to Gareth Southgate’s desperate players in the aftermath of their disappointing draw against Denmark.
The future king spoke to the England team in the dressing room on Thursday after their match at the Wald Stadium, after the players delivered a sub-par performance that led to much criticism.
But the Prince of Wales tried to lighten the mood immediately after the final whistle by telling Southgate’s side not to overreact to the frustrating display.
“He tried to keep us all positive,” revealed England midfielder Adam Wharton.
“He said it’s not the end of the world. We thought we were still at the top of the group, we didn’t lose, we drew, we just have to think about the game – to see how we can get better and look forward to the next game. That’s the only thing you can do in tournament football.’

The prince’s sentiments were echoed by England No. 1 Jordan Pickford, who insists the squad are relaxed after their unforgettable night in Frankfurt.
“We’re doing well, we’re cold, it’s tournament football, you have to enjoy the moment while you’re here,” the Everton star said.
‘We have four points and are at the top of the group. We know we can do much better in the matches, but we are not defeated yet.
‘After two games we have the same points as the last two tournaments and I would say we are calm.
‘The noise from outside is that we have to perform on Tuesday, but there is no reason to panic. For me personally, we know we haven’t peaked yet.
‘Everyone supports the manager. Everything we do in training and the meetings we have, he delivers brilliantly for us and makes sure we get the right game plan.
‘We weren’t perfect against Denmark, but that’s a good feeling because we know we can improve.
“The story will change as we start to peak, but for now it’s all about Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Shaw is a major injury doubt for England’s final group match against Slovenia on Tuesday, with the left-back also expected to miss Sunday’s training.
The Manchester United star is not giving up hope of competing in the tournament despite not having recovered from the hamstring injury that has prevented him from playing for five months.
But having missed Saturday’s session at the team’s headquarters in Weimar, it is believed Shaw is also likely to miss training on Sunday.
England’s medics will ask if Shaw can take part in training on Monday, but even if he does, there seems little hope of him playing a role against Slovenia on Tuesday. Shaw has yet to play a minute of football here in Germany.
