The reasons why Manchester United failed to bid for Harry Kane this summer have been revealed as the England star joins Bayern Munich in a £100 million deal.

Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Kane, with the Tottenham captain departing.

Instead of signing Kane, Man United opted to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for £72 million.

The Norway international is unavailable to make his debut when United play Wolves on the opening day of their Premier League campaign, but hopes to return from injury soon.

That has now been announced by The athletic why Manchester United, long associated with Kane, did not pursue a transfer to the striker this summer.

The report says that the Red Devils were keen not to be “tempted into a battle they thought they could not win”.

It is further believed that ‘United felt Kane’s preference would still be Bayern, partly because there is no guarantee that Erik ten Hag’s men were ready to challenge for the biggest trophies’.

The report also says that United thought Kane was looking for an annual salary of £30 million, but this remains unclear.
