Tottenham are the Premier League’s ‘Spursiest’ side after throwing away more points than anyone else from a winning position, new data shows.

In an ironic twist, the club has proven to fulfill one of football’s longest-running stereotypes, with Spurs regularly mocked for their failure to win trophies despite several impressive challenges in the top and cup competitions.

Since 1992, Spurs have conceded 451 points when leading matches, two more than Everton and five more than London rivals Chelsea.

This questionable underbelly has also put them ahead of the likes of Southampton (437), Aston Villa (428), West Ham (424) and Newcastle (414).

Surprisingly, Arsenal and Liverpool are also high on the list. The former have dropped 372 points despite being ahead, while the latter have lost 365 points.

Reigning champion Manchester City has now surrendered 289 points.

The last time Tottenham were able to add to their trophy cabinet was in 2008, when they lifted the League Cup, now the Carabao Cup, after beating Chelsea at Wembley.

In total they have won 26 trophies, including two UEFA Cups and eight FA Cups.

However, recent years have not been kind to them, with the semi-finals of multiple tournaments often proving to be a bridge too far for them.

In fact, they have crashed out of the FA Cup no less than four times in the last four, while three defeats in the League Cup final have compounded their woes.

They also missed out on the Champions League after losing to Liverpool in the 2019 final, conceding the opening goal with just two minutes on the clock.
