REVEALED: The love triangle at the center of England’s World Cup semi-final against Australia involving two star forwards and USWNT’s Kristie Mewis

England and Australia will renew their sporting rivalry in Wednesday’s Women’s World Cup semi-final, and US star Kristie Mewis is likely to be a keen observer.

The USA’s bid for a third consecutive World Cup triumph ended dramatically in the round of 16 as they were beaten by Sweden on penalties, but Mewis still has a lot of interest in the tournament.

That is due to the fact that she is currently in a relationship with Australian striker Sam Kerr.

Kerr is widely recognized as one of the best female players in the world, but had to wait for her World Cup moment after sitting out the entire group stage with a calf injury.

She has returned to take part in Australia’s last two games and helped her side in the last four, and will be supported by Mewis when the Matildas play England this week in Sydney.

Mewis also has a history with an England player, having previously dated Rachel Daly.

Unlike Kerr, Daly has played in every game Down Under, but after finishing top scorer in the WSL last season, she was used out of position by Sarina Wiegman, who largely operated as a left-back rather than up front.

Mewis and Daly met while playing together for Houston Dash, and began dating in 2017 before calling it quits two years later.

Daly has since returned to England and now plays for Aston Villa, while Mewis still plays for NJ/NY Gotham FC in her home country.

After their breakup, Mewis started dating Kerr. The exact start date of their relationship is unknown, but Mewis consoled Kerr on the field as the USA defeated Australia in the bronze medal match at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Soon after, the couple confirmed their relationship on Instagram by posting a picture of them kissing.

Two years on, and they’re still moving ahead of the biggest game in Australian women’s football history.

The team’s quarter-final victory crushed Australia’s ratings, and those numbers are likely to be broken once more as they take on England in their bid to reach their first-ever World Cup final.

England have also never been in a final, having been eliminated in the semi-finals in 2015 and 2019.

A year after winning the European Championship, they will try to overcome the semi-final hurdle on the world stage and reserve their place in the showpiece against Spain or Sweden next Sunday.
