Revealed: The Instagram post that proves Sam Kerr was on cloud nine on the day she allegedly racially abused a cop

  • Sam Kerr scored an FA Cup hat-trick for Chelsea on January 30 last year
  • Hours later, Matilda’s skipper is accused of racially abusing a police officer
  • Kerr, 30, has denied the accusation; the trial is scheduled for February next year

On January 30 last year – the same day Sam Kerr allegedly racially abused a police officer in London – the superstar striker was on cloud nine.

Chelsea’s goal machine had just scored a hat-trick against Liverpool as the Blues won 3-2 to advance to the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup.

The clash was played on home soil at Kingsmeadow – and full-time Kerr posted an image on Instagram from the ground next to her now fiancΓ©, Kristie Mewis.

β€œOn to the next round,” Kerr posted at the time, as both footballers beamed as they hugged each other at the side of the pitch.

What is said to have unfolded hours later will now play out in court, with Kerr accused of using abusive, threatening or insulting words which caused alarm or distress to a police officer during an alleged incident in Twickenham, south-west London on 30 January last year.

The loved-up couple uploaded a cryptic post as Catarina Macario – Kerr’s replacement as she recovers from an ACL injury – took on Chelsea against Leicester in a league match on March 4.

The 30-year-old, who wore a white T-shirt under a black suit jacket as she appeared at Kingston Crown Court via video link, spoke only to confirm her identity and enter a not guilty plea to the charges on Monday.

Kerr was told she is required to take part in a four-day trial, scheduled for February next year, in which two police officers are expected to testify.

Judge Judith Elaine Coello said it was clear the footballer would defend that she did not mean to upset the police officer.

“I understand that the defense is that she did not intend to worry, harass or hurt the officer, that (her conduct) did not amount to that and that it was not racially aggravated,” the judge asked Kerr’s attorney, Grace Forbes.

The charge comes as Kerr, who has scored 99 goals in 128 appearances for Chelsea since signing for the club in 2019, is sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during the club’s training camp in Morocco in January.

Kerr has won four Women’s Super League titles with Chelsea, as well as three FA Cups, two Women’s League Cups and the Women’s Community Shield in 2020.

Last November, Kerr and fellow professional player Kristie Mewis, 32, who currently plays for West Ham United, confirmed they were engaged.

Meanwhile, the couple is in love uploaded a cryptic message when Catarina Macario took on Chelsea against Leicester in a league match on March 4.

Macario, 24, was sidelined for 641 days due to a cruciate ligament injury and marked her debut for the Blues with a goal after just six minutes.

The USWNT forward will be a straight swap for Kerr as Emma Hayes’ side look for more silverware this season.
