  • A recent survey by Optimos Travel named the cheapest U.S. vacation destinations
  • The first-place destination costs just $1,237 for a weeklong trip

The least expensive vacation destinations in the US have been named, and the winner is not only beautiful, but costs just $91.44 per night.

A recent study of Optimal Travel has been named the top US travel hotspots where you can get the most bang for your buck.

First place is taken by the Outer Banks, a group of islands off the coast of the American state of North Carolina.

The Outer Banks is known for its open ocean beaches, state parks, and shipwreck diving sites, making it a great spring or summer vacation destination for the whole family.

According to the study, a vacation in the Outer Banks costs about $177 per day — meaning a week’s stay costs about $1,237.

“We ranked the Outer Banks as the least expensive destination, where the allure of the Atlantic Ocean meets affordability,” the company shared in its findings.

‘With the lowest accommodation cost of $91.44, combined with meals at $60 and attractions going up to $11.27, the daily cost per person is just $177. A week’s stay here… for a family of four [comes out] for just $3,247.90, proving that paradise doesn’t have to cost a fortune.”

Aaron Tuell, of the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, said the spot became especially popular among travelers after the hit Netflix series hit screens in April 2020, which he said was a great promotion for the area.

Tuell admitted he thinks the TV show, starring Chase Stokes and Madelyn Clyne, has brought a lot of new people to the Outer Banks.

He told Fox5 that the show has raised global awareness of the “big secret” that is the value you get from an Outer Banks vacation.

“The Outer Banks has never been better,” he said. “We’ve seen crazy growth come in and start to taper off back to normal.”

Tuell said local businesses, property management companies and hotels have been able to perfect their business models and create a great vacation experience for visitors.

“Our homes are mom-and-pop properties,” Tuell said, adding that the Bureau has devised a plan to ensure the Outer Banks sticks to its roots as it expands and changes in the coming decades.
