Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has recorded the fastest pace in the Premier League this season, but new data has produced some surprises early in the season.

Van de Ven has cemented his reputation as one of the Premier League’s fastest stars since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg at the start of last season.

After topping the top speed rankings in the 2023/24 season, the Dutch defender is back at the top seven games into the new season.

Van de Ven has already shown his pace by mounting a counter-attack with solo runs against Everton and Man United.

From new data released by the BBC and Opta, the 23-year-old, has been clocked as the fastest player at the top level by reaching a top speed of 37 km/h.

The Tottenham star is closely followed by Wolves winger Carlos Forbs and Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, who achieved 36.7 and 36.3 km/h respectively.

Man City’s goal machine Erling Haaland is in fourth place with a speed of 36.2 km/h, clocking the same speed as another Tottenham player in Timo Werner.

Haaland, who has scored 10 goals in seven games this season, also appeared to have run the most in the top flight after covering 28.5 miles.

His teammate Kyle Walker has regularly topped the rankings of fastest players in the Premier League throughout his career.

The Man City captain has achieved the second fastest speed ever in the league at 37.1 km/h – beaten only by Van de Ven who reached a speed of 37.2 km/h last season.

However, the 34-year-old is only 80th in the top flight after seven games of the new season.

Gabriel Martinelli and Alejandro Garnacho led the way for Arsenal and Man United respectively, reaching speeds of 36.1 and 35 km/h respectively.
