Charley Hull has apparently taken up smoking to quit vaping after the world number 8 went viral this week for signing autographs with a lit cigarette in her mouth.
Hull, 28, did her best John Daly impression as she gave fans a souvenir from the US Women’s Open.
The footage went viral on social media – as is often the case when Daly himself approaches a major with a lit cigarette – and now it is claimed there is an unorthodox reason behind Hull’s smoking.
A GOLF.Com reporter, Zephyr Melton, claimed on Twitter: “Best line of the week from an old LPGA caddy: Charley told him she smoked cigarettes so she can quit vaping.”
The images of Hull smoking were not missed by her fellow competitors at this week’s event in Pennsylvania – at Lancaster Country Club.

World number 1 Nelly Korda was seen showing it to Hull and fellow golfer Megan Khang on Wednesday as the three laughed together.

She started playing golf with her father at the age of 2 at her home course in Kettering, Northamptonshire and turned professional in 2013 at the age of 17.
Last year, Hull was diagnosed with ADHD and has been open about how fitness has helped her manage the symptoms.
“When I feel like I’m struggling, I go to the gym,” Hull said in an interview with Sky Sports in April. ‘I have decided not to use medication, because I feel that I can do it myself.

“One of the biggest things for me is routine. That’s why the job I have works well, because my days have a regular structure.
‘When I’m on tour I can get into a really good routine and that helps me a lot. I have a better understanding of myself in terms of what works for me and what doesn’t.
‘I know how important routine is to me and I can plan and schedule better so I can be as healthy as possible. I put myself first. I know my triggers and how to deal with them. I just do myself.’
Hull, who has more than 438,000 followers on Instagram, is interested in fashion and described her style as ‘unapologetic’.
