Revealed: ‘Peanut’ is the most common nickname parents-to-be give their baby bump, according to new poll – as ‘Bean’, ‘Berry’ and ‘Nugget’ also rank among the favourites
The most common nicknames expectant parents give their babies are ‘peanut’, ‘bean’ and ‘berry’, a poll has found.
About 60 percent of expectant parents name their baby bump and 71 percent continue to use this name after their child is born.
The most popular name given to bumps was ‘peanut’, used by one in ten expectant couples.
When the topic of her newborn son’s name came up in 2013, pop superstar Adele chose to keep it under wraps and instead called him by his nickname “Little Peanut.”
The survey among 1,000 expectant parents and parents with children under the age of five, conducted for Pregnacare by supplement company Vitabiotics, showed that nicknames are often inspired by the size of the bump.

When it came to naming her newborn son in 2013, pop superstar Adele chose to keep it a secret and instead called him by his nickname “Little Peanut.”
Other common sources of inspiration include nicknames of near and dear ones or pets, family traditions and favorite foods.
‘Nugget’, ‘berry’ and ‘bean’ appear in the top ten and popular choices during pregnancy include ‘Wiggler’, ‘Fidget’ and Squish’, researchers found.
‘Buddy’, Beansprout’, ‘Bubba’ and ‘Bumpy’ are also in the top 25, along with ‘Toad’, ‘Shrimp’, ‘Mouse’ and ‘Mango’.
Seven in ten parents (71 percent) stick with the nickname of the bump and continue to use it after birth.
Nearly half (46 percent) then made personalized items with their baby’s name on it.
And an overwhelming nine in ten (89 percent) said the nickname helped them bond with their baby before birth.
Of those who didn’t mention their baby bump, 44 percent said they simply didn’t need it, while 18 percent were afraid of getting too attached and wanted to wait for the baby to arrive safely.
Susanne Bisinotto, from Vitabiotics, said: ‘The journey to aging begins as soon as you hear the exciting news.
‘While this can be a rollercoaster of a time, many parents have experienced the psychological benefits of starting this special bond with their baby by naming their baby bump.’
