Germany have reportedly gone a step further and taken unusual measures to ensure their plans remain secret ahead of their Euro 2024 quarter-final against Spain on Friday.

Spain have won all four games so far and conceded just one goal, making them the team to beat in Germany.

They now face a thrilling showdown with the home side in Stuttgart, who want to keep their tactics secret in an attempt to extend their participation in their home tournament.

According to ImageThe German staff even went so far as to play loud music on their mobile phones to prevent spies or passers-by from listening in on Julian Nagelsmann’s tactics for Friday’s match.

The idea behind this bizarre measure is to drown out the conversations between Nagelsmann and his players.

On Wednesday morning they even did this with two reporters from Bild. They followed them closely and played the title song of the German children’s series ‘Benjamin Blümchen’ and ‘Cheri Cheri Lady’ by the 80s pop duo Modern Talking.

The German selection is stationed at the Adidas location in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, where two fences with high tarpaulins have already been installed.

Security also watches over the entire complex. Mounted police officers ensure that players are safe.

But they are now going one step further to reduce the risk of spies eavesdropping on Nagelsmann’s plans as the tournament draws to a close.

Nagelsmann previously had problems with spies at his old club Bayern Munich in 2022 and is keen to ensure this does not happen again.

Germany has also been wary of spies in the recent past and trained behind high walls during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

However, they were unable to capitalize on this as they were eliminated in the group stage after losing their last match against Japan.

This time they did much better in front of their home crowd, finishing as group winners after beating Scotland and Hungary and drawing against Switzerland.

They then beat Denmark 2-0 in the round of 16, although it was a tougher match than the scoreline suggests, with the Danes having a goal disallowed for offside and Germany being awarded a penalty for a questionable handball.

Nagelsmann caused a surprise in the round of 16 by replacing Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz with Leroy Sané.

He must now consider whether to bring Wirtz back for the match against Spain, but he does not want to give the media and potential spies any clues as to how he will field his team.

The 36-year-old manager also tries to distract his players as little as possible. For example, he confirmed before the knockout stage that he had banned agents and advisors from the squad’s training base. He did this to protect his team from transfer rumours.
