Lee Carsley has already begun forming his new coaching staff in preparation for his first games as caretaker England manager.

Carsley was announced as interim manager earlier this month after Gareth Southgate left the England team following the recent European Championship in Germany.

Southgate was one of England’s most successful managers ever, reaching two European Championship finals, a World Cup semi-final and a quarter-final in his eight years in charge.

His departure has seen Under-21 manager Carsley promoted to the top job on an interim basis as England continue their search for a new manager.

Now however, according to the TelegraafCarsley has already fired two senior performance analysts for his upcoming training camp with the senior team and replaced them with one from the U21 squad.

Mike Baker and Stephen O’Brien will not take part in the training camp ahead of the two Nations League matches in September, while James Rider will join Carsley’s staff for the games.

Carsley is understood to have had a strong relationship with the FA since winning the 2023 Under-21 European Championship, which enabled Rider to be brought into the first-team.

It is believed that there will be further changes in the coaching staff, as U21 goalkeeper coach Tim Dittmer will also guide his former colleague to the seniors.

Meanwhile, the contracts of free-agents Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Paul Nevin are not expected to be extended.

Former England defenders Joleon Lescott and Ashley Cole are reported to be set to follow Carsley from the U21s and join the senior staff for the September games, following their success in Georgia last year.

The analysis department led by Southgate played a crucial role in the preparation of the match. The department, headed by Rhys Long, was responsible for compiling video clips for every player in every role, in both the junior and senior divisions.

Carsley has already been spotted at the stadium, eyeing up potential squad members as he prepares to announce his first group as England manager.

The former Republic of Ireland player has worked with a number of England internationals as England Under-21 manager, with Anthony Gordon and Levi Colwill among those who have spoken highly of him in the past.

Their former team-mate Cole Palmer has since become a regular member of the England team, scoring in the final of the European Championship and setting up Mikel Oyarzabal’s heartbreaking winner for Spain in Berlin.

Other stars who could be in line for a call-up to the European Under-21 squad include James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Gibbs-White, Noni Madueke and Emile Smith Rowe.
