Former NHL goaltender Roman Cechmanek was found dead by his son in a bathtub on Sunday afternoon, as more details emerged about his shock death at the age of 52.
As reported by BILRoman Cechmanek Jr. found his father in an apartment in their native Czech Republic, according to former teammate Radim Tesarik.
The current status of the investigation rules out third-party involvement, but it is still unclear how the former NHL star died.
“Because the medical examiner was unable to determine the cause of death at the scene, a forensic autopsy was ordered,” a police spokeswoman said.
“The police officers have ruled out any involvement in the death,” a police spokeswoman added.

Cechmanek’s cause of death is still not officially known. According to BILD, rumors surrounding his death point to a heart attack or drug overdose.
Returning to the Czech Republic after his NHL career ended, Cechmanek became a youth hockey coach.
Cechmanek is expected to miss one of his team’s games on Saturday due to his health. According to BILD, there were no signs of general decline for Cechmanek.
Cechmanek played four seasons in the NHL, the first three with the Flyers from 2000-2003.
But during that time in Philadelphia, he was voted to the 2001 NHL All-Star Game and twice selected the Bobby Clarke Trophy winner as the team’s most valuable player.

The Flyers selected him in the sixth round of the 2000 NHL Draft. He went 35-15-6 with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage and 10 shutouts in that first season, and was an All -Star.
The Flyers traded Cechmanek to the Los Angeles Kings in May 2003 for a 2004 second-round draft pick, who was later dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade that brought Alexei Zhamnov to the Flyers in 2003-04.
Cechmanek finished his NHL career with a 110-64-28 record, 2.08 GAA, .919 save percentage and 25 shutouts in 212 games. He later played professionally in Germany and Sweden.
