“By making the two-year time jump, I wanted to reward the audience with a truly surprising twist,” he said.

“It’s entirely possible for two unexpected characters to fall in love during that period and it would make perfect sense if you had seen it play out.”

Herbison continued, “The difference is you haven’t seen it happen yet – so now we ask you to keep watching and find out how it happened.

‘I wanted an OMG moment to start the new chapter and Toadie and Terese were perfect. I love that they’ve never looked at each other like that before.

“But it’s not just there for shock value; there is a deep and complex backstory behind it’.

On Friday’s episode of The Project, returning stars Annie Jones and Ryan Maloney said the show, which has been filming since April, is more than ready for its new season.

“We started filming in April, so it took a really long time to really keep everything top secret,” Ryan said.

“I think we’re close to a hundred episodes,” Annie said, as Ryan confirmed, “Yes, we made a hundred.”

He added: “We’ve already done that, so yeah. I mean, we did 9,000 too, but we’re at 100 for Amazon now, yeah.”
