England have discovered their opponents in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals if they manage to beat Slovakia on Sunday – after holders Italy exited the competition.
The Three Lions managed to reach the knockout stages despite a string of disappointing performances in all three group matches.
Gareth Southgate’s men recorded a 1-0 victory over Serbia in their tournament opener before suffering two stalemates against Denmark and Slovenia respectively.
Despite only finishing on five points, it was enough to see them top the group as the other group matches also ended in draws. Southgate’s men will need to see a huge improvement in their performances if they are to live up to their pre-tournament hype and emerge as one of the tournament favorites.
Who will England face in the knockout stages? Here’s their route to the final.

Last 16 – Slovakia
England will take on Slovakia in the round of 16 on Sunday 30 June.
The Three Lions narrowly avoided a meeting with the Netherlands after Georgia surprised Portugal with a 2-0 win over one of the teams in the title bid.
Quarter Finals – Switzerland
If England manage to win their last 16 matches against Slovakia, which seems a reasonable task, they will face Switzerland.
Switzerland played a good match in Group A. The country was undefeated and narrowly missed out on first place. That place went to host country Germany.
Murat Yakin’s men then shocked the continent when they knocked out Italy in the round of 16 on Saturday.
Remo Freuler opened the scoring before Ruben Vargas made it 2-0 straight after half-time.

Semi-final – Austria / Romania / Netherlands / Turkey
If England manage to beat Switzerland, they will play one of the following countries in the semi-final on Wednesday 10 July:
Austria, Romania, Netherlands and Turkey are all potential opponents for Southgate’s side as they go the distance to reach Dortmund for the semi-finals.
Final – Spain / Germany / France / Portugal / Belgium / Denmark / Slovenia / Georgia
England could do the unthinkable and reach the final, where they will lift their first major trophy since 1966.
But unlike the way they reach the final, their opponents in the final will likely be one of the big four teams on the other side of the schedule.
Their most likely opponents in the final would be Spain, Germany, France or Portugal.
Belgium are also in the other group, while Denmark, Slovenia and Georgia are the big underdogs to reach the final.
