London is not only the capital of the United Kingdom, but it is also the most self-confident city.

Health and wellness app Kic has set out to uncover the cities across Britain where people love and hate their bodies the most.

The survey revealed that 25% of Londoners admit they love their bodies, while 22% of Promises residents are happy with their figure.

In contrast, Belfast and Norwich are at the bottom of the list, with only six per cent of people in each city believing they are confident.

For the study, Keck surveyed 2,000 British women aged between 18 and 34 about their views on their bodies.

Overall, only 4% said they never worry about their appearance, while 57% worry on a weekly basis.

Meanwhile, 83% said concerns about their appearance led them to avoid certain events or activities.

When asked about the main causes of poor body image, 61% cited social media, and 53% said that photos of influencers and celebrities make them judge their bodies harshly.

Additionally, 49% said the fitness industry is obsessed with working out to “look good” rather than doing it to “feel good.”

It was followed by Birmingham (22 per cent), Plymouth (19 per cent), Manchester (18 per cent) and Leicester (18 per cent).

At the other end of the scale, Belfast and Norwich were found to be the least physically confident (both six per cent), followed by Sheffield (nine per cent), Edinburgh (nine per cent) and Liverpool (10 per cent).

While 17% of people in Stoke-on-Trent said they loved their bodies, this city also had the highest rating for ‘hating their body’ at 13%.

“Low body confidence is something that affects women and non-binary people all over the world, driven by the likes of social media and toxic trends disguised as ‘wellness,’” said Laura Henshaw, CEO and co-founder of Kic.

“But it is time to tear up the wellness ‘rule book’ for the better if we are to turn the tide on what is rapidly becoming a pandemic.”
