The 60 percent of Brits who shop online buy more per head than those who go to the supermarket.
Researchers found that online shoppers purchased an average of 1,500 more calories per person than those who shopped in-store.
The study, conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

The research comes after a study found that online shopping has created a lottery, with some supermarkets supplying fresh food that is close to (or even past) its sell-by date.
But in a separate study: Which one? found that only 24 percent of shoppers complained and 23 percent ate outdated products. About 18 percent threw things away.
The research comes after it was revealed that major supermarkets and food brands are changing their recipes to reduce the use of expensive ingredients.
