Republicans are now turning their attention to President Biden’s handling of classified documents with a new subpoena for his former White House lawyer Dana Remus.
The Oversight Committee also requested transcribed interviews with four White House officials they say have knowledge of the president’s handling of classified documents: Annie Tomasini, director of Oval Office Operations, Anthony Bernal, adviser to First Lady Jill Biden, Katie Reilly, Advisor to the Chief of Staff and Ashley Williams, Special Assistant to the President.
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said last month that they had seen evidence that Biden’s aides began inspecting classified materials found in his post-vice presidency office in D.C. nearly a year and eight months before the papers would be found.

“It is imperative to learn whether President Biden has retained sensitive documents relating to countries involving his family’s foreign business dealings that have generated millions for the Biden family,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The requests come as the Justice Department conducts its own investigation into whether Biden mishandled classified documents.
Biden’s lawyers initially said they found the documents at the Penn Biden Center on November 2, 2022, just before the midterm elections, and alerted the National Archives.
That information wasn’t reported to the public until almost two months before CBS broke the story.
The DOJ has appointed special counsel Robert Hur to lead the case over the handling of the documents found at the Penn Biden Center and President Biden’s garage in January.

It is not clear where Hur’s investigation into the document handling stands, although the White House confirmed last month that the special counsel had interviewed Biden himself in the case.
Over the summer, Trump was charged with 37 felonies over his mishandling of classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago.
In January, CNN reported that 10 classified documents found at the Penn Biden Center related to the United Kingdom, Ukraine and Iran.
Hunter Biden was paid more than $1 million a year to serve on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
Last week, the Oversight Committee, which is leading the impeachment investigations, served subpoenas on Hunter and James Biden himself, as well as Hunter Biden’s art dealer and several others.
Comer has said his committee has uncovered more than $20 million the Biden family accepted from foreign sources.
