There are growing calls among Republicans for Brinton, who enjoys some level of nuclear clearance through his role, to be fired.

“If these latest allegations are true, Sam Brinton’s misconduct and gross lack of judgment are worse than we thought, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior that disqualifies him from representing the Department of Energy and influencing policy.

“Brinton must be fired immediately,” Rep. Andrew Clyde told DailyMail.com on Friday.

Congressman Troy Nehls also called for Brinton’s firing or resignation this morning, saying they should be “immediately fired” and revoke their authorization.

But the Department of Energy has so far only put Brinton on leave.

In a statement to DailyMail.com on Friday, after the arrest warrant was filed in Las Vegas, a spokesperson said: ‘The Department of Energy takes criminal charges against DOE employees and permit holders very seriously.
