Joe Biden raised his eyebrows after telling a group of kids that their “daddy owes them” and that he would suggest a place for ice cream.

The president made the offhand remark Wednesday at an event at the White House.

He had just been introduced on stage by an energy manager who said his children were in the audience. Biden joked, “I want to say one thing to your kids: I know some great ice cream parlors around here, and Dad owes you. Then talk to me.’

An excerpt of the comment was posted on social media by the National Committee of the Republic, where some commented that it was “creepy.”

Texas senator Ted Cruz reposted it with the hashtag “#StrangerDanger.”

The event on Wednesday marked the first anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Biden said at a ceremony at the White House that the legislation has already created 170,000 clean energy jobs and will create some 1.5 million jobs over the next decade while significantly reducing the country’s carbon emissions.

Biden was introduced by Scott Strazic, the CEO of energy company GE Vernova.

Strazic said, “When America innovates, the world wins. So on behalf of our GE Vernova employees, on behalf of my nine-year-old daughter and my 11-year-old son, I’m grateful to be here today, and their generation – because that’s why we do this work – I want to thank the president.”

Biden then took the stage and made the remark.

It is not the first time the president has been mocked by his critics for awkward comments or interactions with children.

During a trip to Finland in July, the president pretended to gobble up a little girl and then sniffed her while greeting well-wishers at an airport.

The 80-year-old president was caught interacting with the mother and daughter as he prepared to fly back to Washington from Europe.

Biden was in Helsinki for the NATO summit in Lithuania, where he was also reprimanded for making a creepy remark to a female Finnish reporter.

It is the latest bizarre clip from the president, who has often raised questions about his interactions with young people in the past.

She continued to squirm and turned her back on the commander-in-chief as her mother tried to take a selfie.

Meanwhile, Biden kept making faces at her before appearing to try to sniff her head or sniff her.

He eventually walked away before being greeted by other onlookers hoping to get their picture taken with him. The girl continued to sulk in her mother’s arms.
