Republicans demand Hunter Biden turn over documents in ‘influence peddling’ probe

Republicans are demanding that Hunter Biden, his business partner and Joe’s brother James turn over documents related to the family’s business, saying it is a “national security threat” if the president is “compromised.”
House Republicans have stepped up their investigation into the Biden family by demanding that Hunter, his business partner and the president’s brother, James, turn over documents related to their business dealings.
Kentucky Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky wants the files as part of his investigation into how much Biden knew about his son’s business dealings and the extent of the family’s influence peddling around the world.
The latest request focuses on the time period from January 20, 2009, when Joe Biden was sworn in as vice president, to January 20, 2021, when he took the reins of the White House.
Hunter and his Uncle James’ dealings with a Chinese energy magnate appear to be in the spotlight.
House Republicans have stepped up their investigation into the Biden family by demanding that Hunter, his business partner and the president’s brother, James, turn over documents related to their business dealings.
Comer has given the trio a February 22 deadline to serve the documents, otherwise Republicans will consider issuing subpoenas.
The Republican Party accused the Biden family of using their names to enrich themselves. They also allege that the family sold the access they were allowed through Biden’s office to people around the world, including some with ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
The White House has consistently denied that the president was involved in Hunter’s dealings and claims that the Republican investigations are based on “conspiracy theories.”
“Hunter Biden, James Biden and Eric Schwerin are key witnesses in our investigation into Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s domestic and international business schemes,” said House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman Comer, it’s a statement.
“The evidence obtained in our investigation reveals that the Biden family business model is based on the political career and connections of Joe Biden.
‘Members of the Biden family tried to sell access around the world, including people who were connected to the Chinese Communist Party, to enrich themselves to the detriment of American interests.
“If President Biden is compromised by agreements with foreign adversaries and they are affecting his decision-making, this is a threat to national security.
“The American people deserve transparency and accountability about the Biden family’s influence peddling.
‘The Oversight Committee is committed to exposing the waste, fraud and abuse that has taken place at the highest levels of our government.
“Documents, records, and communications from Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Eric Schwerin are critical to this investigation.”
The latest move by Republicans follows Hunter’s own attempt to intensify his attacks on his critics.
His lawyers have sent letters to Rudy Giuliani, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon and 11 others, demanding that they preserve any evidence related to the laptop and the information stored on it.
