Top Republican Jim Jordan is urging the Justice Department to answer a series of questions related to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into former President Donald Trump — including the keeping of classified documents at his home in Mar-a- Lago and alleged interference in the 2020 election – charges expected ‘soon’.
Jordan, R-Ohio, who serves as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday according to a letter obtained by DailyMail.com, which comes a day after Trump lawyers were seen leaving a meeting on DOJ headquarters in Washington, DC
The chairman says Garland did not provide information his committee had previously requested about the “unprecedented” raid on Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, last August.
“Since you have not provided this information, and in light of your appointment of Jack Smith as Special Counsel, we are writing to request an unredacted copy of the memorandum outlining the scope of Mr Smith’s investigations into to President Trump and all supporting documentation related to his appointment as special counsel,” demands Jordan.

The top Republican is seeking a response no later than June 20.
Smith was appointed by Garland in November 2022 to serve as a lead investigator in the criminal investigation into Trump’s handling of the classified documents. The special counsel is also investigating allegations that Trump interfered in the 2020 presidential election.
Garland said in a statement at the time that it was in the “public interest” to appoint an outside investigator into the case.
“Based on recent developments, including the former president’s announcement that he is running for president in the next election, and the incumbent president’s stated intention to also run, I have come to the conclusion that it is the public interest is to have special counsel,’ Garland said.
Such an appointment underscores the Department’s commitment to both independence and accountability in particularly sensitive matters. It also enables prosecutors and agents to continue their work energetically and to make decisions that are indisputably guided only by the facts and the law.’
DailyMail.com reached out to DOJ for a response to Jordan’s letter.
Trump attorneys Lindsey Halligan, John Rowley and James Trusty spent about two hours at the Justice Department, according to reports Monday.
The former president posted a post in capital letters on his Truth Social platform after the meeting, referring to the fact that he may face charges in the coming days.
“How on earth could DOJ sue me who did nothing wrong,” Trump wrote.
A grand jury has heard testimony from dozens of witnesses at the D.C. federal courthouse in connection with the classified documents case in recent months.
Separately, Trump was indicted by New York prosecutors in April on 34 counts of business record falsification.
That was the first time in history that a former president was charged with a crime. Trump has pleaded not guilty in court and is expected to face trial next spring.
A special counsel is also examining classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s Delaware home and lobby office in Washington.

Last week, Pence was informed by DOJ that he will not be prosecuted for having classified documents in his Indiana home.
DOJ sent a letter Thursday to Pence’s attorney confirming no criminal charges will follow days before he will enter the White House race.
The FBI searched his $1.9 million home in Carmel, Indiana, in February and found sensitive files with secret markings.
The content of the documents is still not clear, but the federal government’s top prosecutors have decided not to take any further action.
