Republican Senator demands Alvin Bragg is put in JAIL

Senator Rand Paul tweeted Tuesday that he thought Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg should be jailed for prosecuting an indictment against former President Donald Trump.

“Indicting Trump would be a disgusting abuse of power. The district attorney should go to jail,” the Kentucky Republican wrote.

A number of top Republicans have sided with the ex-president as he is likely to face charges over his role in paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Trump took to the internet on Saturday to say he would be arrested on Tuesday and urged his supporters to “PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!!!”

DailyMail.com has learned that while he is likely to face charges on Wednesday, he will not appear before a New York judge until next week.

Trump will lead a rally in Waco, Texas, on Saturday as part of his 2024 presidential bid.

Republican allies of the former president – and even some rivals – have labeled Bragg’s investigation of Trump as politically motivated, since Bragg is a Democrat.

Senator Lindsey Graham said Bragg “did more to get Donald Trump elected president than any person in America.”

Graham appeared alongside several GOP presidential candidates as an unofficial surrogate for Trump, whom he already supported, at Saturday’s Palmetto Family Council Vision ’24 presidential forum in North Charleston.

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley then declined to answer questions from DailyMail.com about the pending indictment, but did speak about the indictment, which she called a “rumor” on Fox Tuesday morning.

“I think what we know is that when you get into these kinds of political prosecutions, it’s more about revenge than justice,” Haley said.

Vice President Mike Pence, who is also considering a 2024 run, also supported Trump — despite feuding with the ex-president on Jan. 6 and Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

Pence called it “politically charged” and “not what the American people want to see,” in a taped interview with ABC’s Jon Karl on Saturday.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is currently considered Trump’s biggest threat to the nomination, tried to come from both sides when he addressed the potential indictment on Monday — criticizing it, though he also shamed Trump for his dealings with the porn star.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I do know this: The Manhattan District Attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor,” DeSantis said at a news conference.

“I don’t know what’s involved in paying hush money to a porn star to keep quiet about some alleged affair. I just can’t argue with that,” the Florida governor added.

DeSantis’ dig at Trump opened him to criticism from some of the MAGA faithful and from Trump himself.

“Ron DeSanctimonious will likely find out about FALSE ALLEGATIONS & FALSE STORY sometime in the future, as he gets older, wiser and better known, when he is unfairly and illegally assaulted by a woman, even classmates who are “underage” (or possibly a man ). !),” Trump posted to Truth Social.

“I’m sure he wants to fight these misfits just like me!”

Trump included a photo of DeSantis and several young women, who were allegedly underage students of his when he was briefly a teacher.

The authenticity of that photo has not been confirmed.
