“After Wednesday’s Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, one of my staff members was attacked by an armed gunman outside his residence,” Finstad, R-Minn., said in a statement.

Fortunately, he will be able to make a full recovery and the extent of his physical injuries was minor. I thank the DC Metropolitan Police Department for their prompt response and attention to this incident.”

The GOP congressman tore up Washington, DC’s “soft-on-crime” policy.

“In Washington, DC and cities across the country, anti-police, soft-on-crime policies have created lawless societies that endanger the public and reinforce criminal behavior. It’s time we started treating criminals like criminals and enacted common sense policies that jail career criminals, keep the public safe, and empower our police officers to adequately protect our communities and keep violent criminals off the streets.”

Finstad himself played at second base in the congressional baseball game, where the Republicans won 16-6 against the Democrats.

Crime in the district is on the rise: car theft is up 120 percent, violent crime is up 21 percent, and overall crime is currently up 28 percent in 2023 compared to 2022.

Last month, a baseball bat-wielding suspect tricked two Democratic Rep. Gerry Connelly left hospitalized after a brutal attack at his Virginia office in suburban DC.

Before that, an aide to Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., was stabbed in broad daylight in northeast D.C.

The apparently random attack took place on H Street – a busy commercial center full of bars and restaurants.
