Senator Rand Paul saved a choking Senator Joni Ernst with the Heimlich maneuver during a Senate GOP luncheon on Thursday.
‘I can’t help but choke on the woke policies that the Democrats are shoving down our throats. Thank you, Doctor @RandPaul!’ Ernst, R-Iowa, wrote on X after the incident.
Ernst hosted the Thursday lunch – which consisted of pork chops and ribeye from the Hawkeye State.
“God bless Rand Paul,” joked Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C to a reporter after the incident. “I never thought I would say that,” he added. The two have spoken frequently on foreign policy issues over the years.
Paul, R-Ky., is a trained ophthalmologist.
Ernst, the No. 4 Republican in the Senate, previously served in the Army Reserves and Army National Guard.
