Republican fabulist George Santos IS the focus of an ethics investigation, Kevin McCarthy confirms voters are asking him to resign and after an aide accused him of sexual harassment.

  • House Speaker Kevin McCarthy revealed Tuesday that embattled Republican Rep. George Santos is facing a House ethics investigation.
  • “Ethics is moving forward, and if Ethics finds anything, we’ll take action,” McCarthy told CNN.
  • The New York Republican told the network that he was not “concerned” about the House Ethics Committee investigating him.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy revealed Tuesday that embattled Republican Rep. George Santos faces a House ethics investigation.

“Ethics is moving forward, and if ethics finds anything, we will take action,” McCarthy said CNN. “Right now we are not going to allow him to be in commissions from the point of view of the issues that have arisen.”

The New York Republican, dubbed the Long Island Liar for the many fabrications he made about his biography, told the network he was “not concerned” about the House ethics investigation.

Santos has been under fire since before he was sworn in, after The New York Times found there is no record that he studied at Baruch College or worked at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, he says on his campaign website.

Other lies were unleashed from there, with the latest development relating to allegations of sexual harassment brought against Santos by a possible staff member.

“Ethics is moving forward, and if Ethics finds anything, we’ll take action,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told CNN.

A man named Derek Myers alleged that Santos “groped” his groin during a January 25 meeting at Santos’ office.

The New York Republican said he “100 percent” denied the claims and dismissed Myers’ accusations as “funny.” according to CNN.

Myers said he filed a police report and a House ethics complaint.

On Tuesday, several dozen Santos voters from New York’s 3rd congressional district stood in front of the Capitol building chanting “hey, hey, ho, ho Santos has to go.”

Rep. Dan Goldman, a New York Democrat and former impeachment attorney, was one of the speakers.

Despite calls for his resignation, Santos has not expressed any inclination to resign.

‘Are you saying that my constituents’ free speech is a distraction to my work?’ Santos told CNN when asked about calls for him to resign. ‘Do you think people are a distraction to the work I’m doing here?’

McCarthy has also not called on Santos to resign, though he indicated in his comments Tuesday that he might support an expulsion if the House Ethics Committee’s investigation turns up evidence of wrongdoing.

It is extraordinarily rare for the House to expel a member.

The last time this happened was in 2002, after Rep. Jim Traficant was convicted of ten counts, including bribery, extortion and tax evasion.

Other punishments for member misbehavior have included being stripped of their committee assignments.

Santos was initially assigned to two committees, but last week told the Republican caucus that he would withdraw from them as the fallout from his falsified biography unfolded.
