Republican congressman Mark Green breaks his silence on the alleged affair that ended his 36-year marriage

  • 59-year-old lawmaker called it a ‘difficult time for my family and me’

A powerful Republican in the House of Representatives is accused of having an affair before filing for divorce from his wife of 36 years.

Camie Green, who was married to House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Mark Green (R-Tennessee), accused him of having an affair with a younger woman before their split.

In a statement on the scandalous claims, Green, 59, said Friday: “This is a difficult time for me and my family, and we are currently in divorce proceedings.

“Since this is a very personal matter, I ask for privacy. I will continue to serve this district with everything I have, as I have done for the past five and a half years.”

The allegations came to light in a group chat message sent by Green’s estranged wife, seen by DailyMail.com and since shared on Capitol Hill.

In the messages, she indicated that she had tried to repair their marriage, but that the congressman wanted nothing to do with it.

“Satan has rewritten our marriage in his mind. I am very open about this because 1) I cherish the prayers of anyone who is willing and 2) I want to make others aware of how easily ‘predators’ are available to our spouses.”

The identity of the woman, who is believed to be in her thirties, has not yet been released.

Green’s wife initially identified her as a reporter, but that later turned out not to be true.

The much-maligned Ms. Green then made more general accusations against male lawmakers, saying they get “drunk on power and adulation.”

She said Green had “pushed God out of his life” after associating with people who “had affairs and filed for divorce, drank and partied, all while hosting a weekly Bible study in the basement of our home.”

Green had announced in February that he would retire from Congress, but abruptly changed his mind about running for re-election. He is on the ballot in November. He won in 2022 by a margin of more than 20 points.

Amid the growing scandal, Green continued to post about the commission’s work on Friday, posting on X about Chinese precursor chemicals in fentanyl and what he called a national security risk from Chinese cranes at U.S. ports.

A divorce filing seen by DailyMail.com in Montgomery County, Tennessee, cited “irreconcilable differences” and did not list the date or place of separation. The parties, who sought an “uncontested divorce,” agreed not to be recused or to forfeit marital property.

It bears Green’s signature and was notarized on July 31, 2024. The Tennessee primary was held on August 1.

Green, a West Point graduate and former Army surgeon, interviewed Saddam Hussein after his mission to capture him in Iraq. He went on to become a hospital director and a Tennessee state senator.
