Republican candidate Kate Monroe uses 400 feet of razor wire she bought from Amazon to close a ‘terrible’ hole in the southern border wall where 3,000 migrants cross a week

A Republican running for Congress decided to take the migrant crisis into his own hands by repairing a section of Mexico-California with barbed wire himself.

Kate Monroe — a Marine Corps veteran and author — took 400 feet of razor wire into a gap in the southern border that has been notorious in recent months for mass crossings of migrants, leaving the countryside littered with trash and debris.

The border opening, known locally as the ‘San Judas Break’ due to its proximity to a nearby Mexican city of the same name, is located approximately 80 miles east of San Diego, near Jacumba Hot Springs, California. The opening itself is only a few meters wide.

Monroe, who is running for California’s 49th Congressional District, told DailyMail.com that she is tired of politicians talking about the border and failing to do anything about it.

“I felt terrible that we couldn’t secure that part of the wall as if it was a huge opening,” she told DailyMail.com in a statement.

“Thank God Amazon sells barbed wire,” she added. “I want Americans to realize that you don’t have to wait for someone else to do what you can do.”

‘Stop being passive and just watching. Get involved.”

The location is a popular crossing point for Chinese nationals, with at least 450 crossing the gap since Monday.

More than 37,000 Chinese migrants have reportedly been encountered at the border in fiscal year 2023 — and as many as 20,000 more have crossed since October, when fiscal year 2024 began.

Jerry Schuster, a 75-year-old who owns the land the migrants are passing through, honey 3,000 people cross the border every week.

Monroe told DailyMail.com that she saw a group of about 60 migrants who had recently crossed while awaiting free transportation from the U.S. government.

“When we arrived on scene, the Border Patrol was sitting in their SUVs watching the migrants as they waited to be picked up and taken to the airport. We spoke to the border boys and they said there was nothing they could do about it.’

Monroe told DailyMail.com that closing the gap was both effective and symbolic as thousands have used the site to cross in recent months.

“Because the hole was closed, they had to trek miles into the mountains through rough terrain,” she said before adding, and “I will hike up there and close it too.”

Her securing of the border stunt comes as Congress has stalled border security.

The Senate spent months negotiating an agreement on border security and foreign aid, which fell apart at the last minute after Republicans criticized weak migrant services and leading Republican candidate Donald Trump criticized the bill as a “horrendous open-borders betrayal of America.”

Immediately after the bill was released, Republicans in the House of Representatives said they would not accept the bill, and the Senate passed a bill without any funding for the border.

The House of Representatives has since passed its own border security bill, but the Democratic-controlled Senate has indicated it will never be voted on.

And the White House has blamed Republicans for the current border problems.

“Every day between now and November, the American people will know that the only reason the border is not secure is because of Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends,” President Joe Biden said on February 6.

Now, however, the White House is reportedly considering executive action to stem the flow of migrants entering the U.S. illegally — something former President Donald Trump did frequently during his time in office.

“The border was left open on purpose,” Monroe said. “If we simply called in the National Guard and let the border patrol do their job while we build a wall, it would be very easy to fix it.”

“I believe the left has a sinister plan in store to flood America with migrants, even if they are drug traffickers, terrorists or human traffickers,” she continued. “They want Democratic supremacy at all costs.”
