Report: Samsung May Roll Out Third Camera Fix for Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra may soon get a third camera upgrade, according to a well-known industry leaker Ice Universe claimed on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) said the smartphone will undergo multiple optimizations for various features.

These changes include improving white balance, HDR, facial features and video zoom, as well as addressing issues with over-processing and over-exposure. However, it is not yet known exactly how Samsung will implement the improvements.

Online reports claim Ice Universe originally posted “samples comparing image quality before and after the update”. However, they removed the comparison and it appears no one has saved a screenshot online. While the sample is gone, we can instead look at old forum posts to get an idea of what could be coming in the upcoming update.

As for white balance, the company may be toning down the whites in photos. One user on the official Samsung forums complained of “poor white balance and distortion” on the corners of the S24 Ultra. Interestingly, white balance corrections were introduced in an update back in April, as adjustments were made to improve accuracy. It appears that further refinements were needed and will be rolling out soon.

Overexposure is another point of contention. People have complained about photos looking too yellow and less detailed than those taken with other phones. Again, this issue has been addressed in the past, but further refinements may have been deemed necessary.

Long term problems

Ice Universe claims that the patch will be released sometime next month, with another possibly coming shortly after. They state that there are still no optimizations for the telephoto lens or for night mode above 10x zoom. The leaker hopes that Samsung continues to fix these issues in the near future.

The camera system on the S24 Ultra has been a major point of contention for users, as the range has been marred by a slew of issues. Some of which we’ve already mentioned, though they also extend to poor noise suppression and poor low-light performance. A quick Google search will reveal news articles, forum posts and YouTube videos attempting to help owners with their camera woes. Hopefully, the issues that plagued the S24 Ultra won’t be present on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

There’s no word on whether Samsung plans to roll out the fixes to the base Galaxy S24 or S24 Plus. At the time of writing, it appears the patch will be exclusive to the Ultra model.
