Report: Samsung Galaxy S24 FE may be better than its predecessor in more ways than one

A new leak has surfaced for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 FE, giving us a look at what could be a seriously impressive mid-range smartphone. According to a report from Android HeadlinesThe budget model will have some similarities with other devices in terms of hardware and software.

The publication claims that the S24 FE will sport a 6.7-inch display, dwarfing the Galaxy S24’s 6.2-inch display. Despite the larger size, the quality may not be any better. The resolution of the image wasn’t mentioned in the leak, but it does say that the phone’s display will have a 120Hz refresh rate with a peak brightness of 1,900 nits.

For reference, the base S24 runs at the same refresh rate, though it’s brighter at 2,600 nits. While the difference exists, it’s not a huge difference in quality.

Hardware specifications

Android Headlines reports that the device has “almost the same cameras as” the Galaxy Z Fold 6. On the rear, there’s a 50MP primary lens alongside a 12MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP 3x optical zoom option. The front houses a 10MP selfie lens. The report states that the Galaxy S24 FE uses AI Zoom to “take clear photos from (a) long distance.”

They don’t know how far the zoom distance will be, but they predict it will be similar to that of the Galaxy S23 FE, which has a 30x hybrid zoom in its optical lens.

Inside, the new smartphone is said to pack a 4,565mAh battery that can last for up to 29 hours of video playback. That’s the same runtime Samsung promised for the Galaxy S24. However, we suspect the FE version will be more power-efficient as it packs an Exynos 2400e chipset instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Possible AI functions

When it comes to software, Samsung is set to implement several AI-powered features. That doesn’t come as a surprise, as previous leaks have suggested that the tech giant is planning to bring the souped-up software to its older models, as well as Samsung’s A-series phones.

A full list wasn’t provided, but the publication says that Circle to Search, Generative Edit, Sketch to Image, and Live Translate are expected to migrate from the S24 series. They even claim that the phone will get Portrait Studio, a camera feature that uses generative AI to create stylized photos.

The fact that Portrait Studio might be making an appearance is interesting because it’s only available on the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, as it requires One UI 6.1. 1 to run. That One UI patch will also be rolling out to the S24 series; but that could be a while yet. Some are claiming Samsung has postponed the update, which points to development issues, while others disagree and say it is still in the testing phase.

Either way, Portrait Studio won’t function without One UI 6.1. 1. If Samsung wants to release the phone in late 2024 with all these features intact, it’ll need to finalize the software around the same time.

Speaking of the phone’s launch, Android Headlines reports that the Galaxy S24 will come in five different colors: blue, green, black, graphite, and yellow. No white, interestingly enough. As always, take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Things can always change.
