Amber Rutter missed out on Olympic gold under controversial circumstances after a dramatic shooting in Chateauroux.
After trailing Francisca Crovetto Chadid in the closing stages, the 26-year-old produced a composed performance to level with the Chilean and force a shoot-out for gold at the National Shooting Center.
On her final attempt, Rutter appeared to have hit both targets, but only one was successful, so she immediately filed a request for review.
The decision was upheld despite TV replays showing she had connected with both shots.
VAR technology has previously been used in other skeet competitions in the event of a controversial decision, but the technology is not yet available for the 2024 Games and Rutter was left watching as her chances of gold hung in the balance.
Chadid eventually kept her cool and scored both shots, winning the shootout 7-6 and giving Chile its first ever shooting medal at the Games.
Rutter became the first British woman to win a medal in skeet skating at the Olympic Games, just four months after the birth of her first child.
