Repairing Apple’s Vision Pro headset will cost almost as much as a new one – unless you do this
Pre-orders for Apple’s Vision Pro have officially opened, and with that the company has released information about how much it will cost to repair the headset.
Be prepared to pay a ton out of pocket because the prices are astronomical if you don’t have an AppleCare Plus insurance plan. According to the official support page, repairs fall into two categories: “Cracked Cover Glass” and “Other Damage”. The former is estimated to cost $799, while the latter costs a whopping $2,399. If AppleInsider points out, which is about “70 percent of the price of a new (unit).” Please note that the price tags listed here do not include shipping or taxes, so expect them to be even higher. Furthermore, Apple will not repair the cover glass even if the damage was caused accidentally. It seems like the only damage they will fix for uninsured owners are manufacturing defects.
Batteries can also be serviced, but Apple doesn’t say how much this will cost. All they say is that a technician will fix it “for a fee”. It also does not replace a battery that has worn out through normal use, as this type of degradation is not covered by the warranty.

Instead of paying $800 for glass repair, insured users only have to pay $300. This also covers accidental damage. The same applies to other forms of damage. Instead of paying a $2,400 bill, the price will drop to $300. Battery service is significantly better under AppleCare Plus. Replacing the power supply will be free, but the battery must contain “less than 80 percent of its original capacity” or the company will refuse.
As for the extended hardware coverage, authorized technicians will repair accidental damage to the headset an unlimited number of times, but it will cost you $300 each time. Additionally, technicians will repair damaged accessories, such as the charging cable, for an additional $30.

Expensive attempt

The monthly subscription will cost you $24.99, while the fixed option will get you $499 for two whole years. If you plan to purchase insurance, you can purchase it along with the headset at checkout or within 60 days of purchasing it online. So there’s a weird time limit on getting AppleCare Plus, but since you’re looking at a $2,400 bill without insurance, you might be better off opting for it.
The Vision Pro proves to be an expensive undertaking; not only because of repairs, but also because of the multitude of accessories. Extra batteries costs $200, travel suitcases its another $200, Zeiss optical lens inserts start at $99, and the list goes on. a holder for the battery made entirely of plastic costs $50. Interested customers will have to make sure their wallets can handle such an investment, or succumb to it.
