Democratic Rep. Katie Porter was seen peacefully reading a book amid chaotic scenes in the House of Representatives yesterday as Alabama Republican Rep. Mike Rogers was pinned down as he lunged at fellow Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.
Porter sat in a bright orange dress as she appeared to be reading the first few chapters of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. The color of the dust cover matched both his attire and the name of the district he represents: Orange County.
The book, subtitled A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life, is a best-selling self-help manual by American blogger Mark Manson that advocates letting go of things that are out of our control.

These were the scenes on the floor on January 6, the fourth and final day of voting for a House speaker that ended with Kevin McCarthy finally elected after 15 rounds of voting.
Porter addressed the Republican infighting in the run-up to McCarthy’s protracted election later on Twitter, saying, “15th time’s the charm, apparently.”
“Americans deserve more than the inability to govern of House Republicans,” he added.
Her color coordination earlier in the day had some users accusing her of staging the scene and one calling her an attention seeker.
However, the move was divisive, as many of her supporters rallied behind her. Democratic social media activist Jack Cocchiarella labeled her an “icon.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Love Katie Porter…just doing her thing while the kids on the other side of the house are fighting.”
However, one person joked that the book’s title could be related to a recent scandal she was involved in.
‘Rep. Katie Porter reading “The subtle art of not giving a fuck”, they said. “Which, according to her former staff, is also her attitude toward allegations of sexual harassment in her office.”

‘That was easy, huh?’ McCarthy began in his victory speech, moments after Rogers had to stop him from attacking Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.
The two Republicans nearly came to blows over Gaetz’s refusal to endorse McCarthy on the 14th ballot, costing him the race.
The California Republican immediately reached out to Gaetz and Boebert, presumably intending to persuade them to change their “current” votes to “yes.”
That’s when Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama stepped up and appeared to lash out at Gaetz, prompting Rep. Richard Hudson of North Carolina to dramatically stop him.
In another shocking photo taken in the House on Friday, Trump ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia could be seen trying to pass her phone to Rep. Matt Rosendale of Montana so he could answer Trump why he was refusing to vote. for McCarthy.
He reportedly approached Rosendale and told him that Trump was on the phone and that Rosendale needed to speak to him. “Don’t ever do me like that,” Rosendale reportedly told him.

Rep. Katie Porter denied firing a staff member for giving her COVID-19 after a text message exchange surfaced
Porter was also charged in late December with barring a staff member from her office in the final months of a two-year fellowship for contracting COVID-19 to her.
Screenshots of text messages allegedly between Porter and former staffer Sasha Georgiades suggest that Porter told Georgiades “you gave me Covid” and did not acknowledge the staffer’s apology or her explanation that she had not been tested. because I was worried about the death of a friend.
The text exchange happened in July, and Porter’s office said the staffer was working on a two-year fellowship at the time that was scheduled to end in August. Georgiades confirmed to Politico that she was not fired and that she planned to leave.
“Congresswoman Porter was letting you know that she would be working from home for the remaining three weeks of her scholarship,” Porter’s spokesman Jordan Wong told DailyMail.com.

‘Why didn’t you follow office protocol about testing? It’s really disappointing,” Porter said in July. ‘I’m terribly sorry. You’re right, I should have done better. Just because I felt fine at the time doesn’t mean I was,” the staff member replied.
‘Sasha, I can’t allow you to come back to the office since you haven’t followed office policies. Cody will be in touch to have his personal effects shipped or delivered to his home, explaining his remote work schedule and his responsibilities for the last several weeks,” Porter said.
Georgiades went on to thank Porter, telling her, “I hate letting her down like that, as I know it’s not an excuse that I found out a friend from the Navy was murdered and my head wasn’t in the right place. It’s not an excuse.” but the rationale for lack of foresight. I appreciate everything this office has done for me.’
Porter replied: ‘Well, you gave me covid. In 25 months, it took you breaking the rules to make me sick. My children have no one to take care of them.’
Georgiades was a Wounded Warrior Fellow who worked as a liaison between veterans and service members in Porter’s office. She told Politico that she was not fired, but that she was effectively banned from office after the incident.
