Rent crisis: Bizarre property in the middle of Townsville’s lounge area baffles potential renters
- House equipped with a glass box in the living room
- The glass box is a greenhouse but resembles a shower
- Potential tenants confused by the strange feature
A rental property with a bizarre interior function has left potential tenants speechless.
The listing for 72 Colchester Crescent in Kirwan, south of Townsville, has attracted attention because of the large glass box in the center of the living room.
The vertical structure resembles a framed glass shower – not something you’d expect to find in a living room – but is actually a small conservatory.

The box is intended to store plants and has a skylight above it.
Like a traditional shower, it has a front door and reaches almost to the ceiling.
Kaye Matheson, Property Manager at McGrath Estate Agents in Townsville, told Daily Mail Australia that this is the first thing people ask her about when they inspect the property.

“Sometimes they call and say, ‘Can I ask you a question about the Colchester property?’” she said.
“Is that a shower? What kind of glass box is that in the middle of the lounge?”
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is currently available for rent.
Tenants are expected to pay $480 per week to live at the address.
Ms Matheson said the house, which was built in 1995, is in Townsville’s largest suburb.

“Kirwan is a good suburb because it has big shopping centers and very good schools,” she said.
The home is a 15-minute walk from Willows Shopping Center and a six-minute drive southwest to Willows Golf Course.
The two-parking property is something “everyone wants in Townsville,” said Ms. Matheson.
It also features a spacious backyard with a large pagola.
