Renewed SEZ Act unlikely before upcoming Lok Sabha elections | Economics and Policy News – Business Standard
The updated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) law is unlikely to see the light of the day before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, two people aware of the matter said. The commerce department had late last year sought a nod from the Union Cabinet to make changes in the existing SEZ Act, 2005. The plan was then to introduce the bill during the winter session of Parliament. Cabinet approval remains pending.
“The changes in the SEZ Act will be possible only after the Lok Sabha elections. The exact timing will depend on the priorities of the new government,” said one of the people mentioned above
