A remote Scottish island that is a dead letter to the island from the hit movie Jurassic Park is looking for a shopkeeper to serve its 40 residents.

Located off the west coast of Scotland, the diamond-shaped Isle of Rum is one of the largest small islands in the Inner Hebrides.

The island’s beauty is undeniable with its lofty peaks and sweeping valleys drawing wonderful comparisons to the Hawaiian environment of the Na Pali Coast – which served as Isla Nubar in the Jurassic Park movies.

Fortunately for anyone interested in the role, the Scottish island is not currently home to dinosaurs.

However, it is home to an abundance of British wildlife, including deer and mountain goats.

Applications can now be submitted for the island’s new retailer and locals expect stiff competition after hundreds of people have expressed interest in living in new homes built a few years ago.

The feature will also appeal to families as the island has a school.

The feature offers exciting development opportunities, including the option to build a new ‘community hub’ within a few years.

The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to rent a modern two-bedroom home nearby.

Commenting on the opportunity, Steve Robertson, development officer at the trust, said: ‘It really is a center for the island.

‘It can work like a pub, where people buy alcohol and drink it outside. But it is also the pharmacy and the post office, because there is nothing else for sale anywhere else.

The new retailer will operate in the center of the 40 strong community

“There is an opportunity for anyone who takes over the store to process the venison we have here, of which there is plenty, and make it more widely available to the local population.

‘It’s a challenging place to run a business because it’s the only shop on the island.

“But for some people it’s the ideal environment and exactly what they want.”
