Remember when there was a Halo miniatures game? Well, we have good news…

The Halo franchise will return to tabletops in 2024 thanks to a new partnership between Mantic Games and 343 Industries. The announcement, made Friday on the Mantic Games website, has a retail launch planned for September. The first preview is expected in March.

We are extremely excited to partner with 343 Industries to bring Halo to tabletops everywhere,” said Ronnie Renton, CEO and Founder of Mantic Games in the announcement. “Putting a firefight on the table as Spartans move in and out of cover connects players to the action in a new and special way. We have an exciting and competitive game, from a passionate team of talented sculptors, artists and designers who have built an incredible Halo experience.

No details about the game have been shared other than it's “a brand new Halo miniatures battle game.” But given the larger quote above and Mantic's existing product lineswe expect it to be a small unit skirmish game with miniatures in 28mm scale or larger. If that's the case, he'd be competing in a crowded field next door Cyberpunk Red: Combat Zone, Necromunde, Warhammer 40,000: Team Killing, Star Wars: Shatterpoint, and Corvus Belli is excellent Infinity.

Halo is no stranger to the tabletop, with many licensed board games to its name. But it also has a history in miniature wargaming. Halo: Fleet Battles is a spacefaring war game first announced by Spartan Games at Gen Con 2015. Polygon reviewed it positively, noting that the quality of the miniatures (which yielded massive 1:20000 scale warships) and the scope of the ruleset made it made a remarkably affordable product. This was followed up later Halo: Ground Commanda more traditional 8mm scale war game – similar to the newly released one Warhammer: Legions Imperialis.

Unfortunately, both games have been hard to find lately. Spartan Games sold its catalog to Warcradle Studios in 2017, and the announcement made no mention of either Halo game. Meanwhile, the Halo tabletop community – a regular feature of the wargaming convention AdeptiCon, held every March in Schaumburg, Illinois – seems cautiously optimistic. They have a series of events planned, including both older Halo tabletop games.
