Remains of tech CEO who disappeared nearly two years ago found in abandoned building in Santa Monica

A Los Angeles tech executive who disappeared two years ago has been found dead, Santa Monica police confirmed Monday.

Beau Mann, 39, was last seen on November 30, 2021.

He was seen on camera around 2pm at a Seven Eleven near the offices of Sober Grid, a digital health app he founded to help people struggling with addiction.

Mann then boarded an Uber and while in the vehicle texted 911.

He was dropped off in Santa Monica and never seen again.

On Monday, Santa Monica police confirmed that human remains found in an abandoned apartment building belonged to Mann. His cause of death remains unclear.

His fiancé Jason Abate wrote on Facebook: “I can’t move an inch without seeing you because everything has a memory of us and I can’t breathe.

‘You weren’t just found ‘remains’. I can’t stand hearing about you “leftovers” one more time. Please stop saying remains, just stop saying dental records.

“Please, don’t let anyone cut your beautiful soul that was larger than life into mere remnants.”

Born in Post, Texas, Mann’s parents separated when he was young, and he grew up traveling between his father’s home in Texas and his mother’s in Massachusetts.

He had spent Thanksgiving 2021 in Texas with family and had just returned to Los Angeles, seemingly in good spirits.

Abate said he last spoke to him the night before he disappeared.

Mann’s company, based in Boston, said in a statement that he was a “light.”

“After an experience in his early years with drugs and addiction, he turned his focus and passion to helping others,” the company said.

“In 2015, he created the first digital app to house a 24/7, online, global community for people in recovery.”

Sober Grid has saved thousands of lives and will continue to save thousands more, according to the company.

The abandoned apartment building, on the 2900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, was less than a mile from where Mann was dropped off, leading Facebook sleuths on the Find Beau Mann page to ask why it hadn’t been thoroughly searched.

One of them posted a video of the dilapidated, boarded-up complex, saying it had become a slum where drug users and the homeless congregated.

Abate, who lives in Michigan, raised the alarm when Mann suddenly stopped answering his calls and messages.

He said it wasn’t unusual for the busy tech executive to stay for a day or so without replying, but as the time passed he was alarmed.

Abate called the LAPD who met Mann’s assistant at his apartment to do a health check.

The assistant reported missing on December 4, 2021.
