Relaxing in My Dream Bathtub: How I Upgraded My Bathroom for Ultimate Comfort

I’ve always loved taking long, relaxing baths. There’s just something so calming and therapeutic about soaking in a warm tub of water. As an avid bather, having the right bathtub is crucial for achieving maximum relaxation. After years of dissatisfaction with my old, standard tub, I finally decided it was time to upgrade my bathroom and invest in my dream bathtub. This ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made to improve my lifestyle.

Out With the Old, In With the New

My previous bathtub was a basic, no-frills model. It was narrow, shallow, and had zero special features. I’d been making it work, but it just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I wanted something bigger, deeper, and more luxurious.

I started doing research online and visiting a couple of websites such as BathtubQuery.com and Showrooms to explore my options. I learned about the different types of tubs available today like soaking tubs, air tubs, jetted tubs, and more. I took measurements of my bathroom space and considered factors like my budget.

After lots of thought, I finally settled on a large, deep soaking tub with air jets. I was drawn to the spacious interiors, ergonomic designs, and hydrotherapy benefits of this type of tub.

The models I looked at also had lots of great features like heated air bubbles, mood lighting, overflow drains, and antimicrobial materials. I was thrilled to replace my lackluster old tub! The installation process required some remodeling work to fit the new larger tub, but it was well worth it in the end.

Features I Was Excited For

Here are some of the features I was most excited about with my new air tub:

Spacious Interior – My new tub has a wide and deep inner basin that allows me to fully stretch out and submerge myself. I no longer have to scrunch up or bend my knees.

Ergonomic Design – The tub has an angled backrest and armrests for optimal comfort and support. I can relax against the contours of the tub.

Heated Bubble Massage – One of the best parts is the warm streams of air bubbles that come out from the jets and give a soothing massage.

Chromotherapy Lighting – The tub comes with multiple LED lighting color options to set the perfect ambiance. I love soaking with peaceful blue lights.

Quick Draining – My tub has a large overflow drain that empties the water swiftly when I’m done bathing. No more standing in leftover water!

Antimicrobial Surfaces – The tub is made from antimicrobial acrylic that inhibits mold and bacteria growth. This helps keep the tub clean.

I was giddy with anticipation while waiting for my new tub to be installed!

Bathtub Models I Considered

During my search, I considered several bathtub options before deciding on my air tub. Here are some of the other models that made my shortlist:

Two-Person Tub – I looked at some extra spacious two-person tubs with room to spread out and even bathe with a partner. But I ultimately wanted something just for me.

Freestanding Tub – Freestanding tubs on claw feet can look very elegant and make a statement. However, I preferred the versatility of a built-in tub.

Corner Tub – Corner tubs maximize space, but I didn’t have the right bathroom layout for one.

Japanese Soaking Tub – Japanese tubs are known for their deep soaking experience but were outside my budget.

Whirlpool Tub – I considered combining water jets with air jets for the ultimate massage action. But the air tub alone had enough features for me.

Walk-in Tub – Walk-in tubs with low doors are great for accessibility but weren’t necessary for my needs.

Few Must-Have Bathtub Upgrades And Toys

Over the years, I’ve discovered a few must-have bathtub upgrades and toys that take my soaks from basic to blissful.

First up – bubbles, bubbles, and more bubbles! I like to load up on bath bombs, bath salts, and bubble bath so I can fill the tub with mountains of fragrant, colorful suds. The aromatherapy benefits combined with the fun of playing in the bubbles make me feel like a kid again. I also keep a variety of bath squirters and toys on hand. Squirting streams of water from a rubber ducky or character toy keeps me amused.

Lighting is key as well. I installed wireless LED lights around my tub and keep candles nearby to set the mood. I created a mini spa atmosphere with a Bluetooth speaker to listen to relaxing music or podcasts in the bath. Nothing tops sipping a glass of wine in the candlelight while soaking in a bubble bath!

While I love a classic deep-soaking tub, I upgraded to an air jet tub and it’s been a game changer. Being able to activate the warm, bubbly water jets to massage my back and soothe sore muscles takes my baths next level. I may never leave the tub!

With a few inexpensive upgrades and toys, my humble bathtub has become my own personal sanctuary and spa—the perfect place to wash away the day’s stress. My dream bath is now a daily reality. What could be better than that?

The Installation Process

I’ll admit, I underestimated how much work it would take to get my new tub properly installed. It required some major bathroom remodeling. Here were the key steps:

  • Removed the old tub & drained plumbing lines
  • Expanded the tub alcove by moving back one wall
  • Installed new drainage pipes and water lines
  • Reinforced the flooring to support heavy tub weight
  • Leveled the area & applied waterproof backing
  • Lowered the tub into place & connected plumbing
  • Secured the tub legs & base
  • Attached bubble jets & control panels
  • Sealed joints & performed leak tests
  • Added finishing touches like trim and caulking

It was disruptive having the bathroom torn apart for several days. But the installation crew did an excellent job making sure everything was properly configured for the new tub. It was well worth the time and investment!

My Dreamy Soaking Experiences

Now that my new tub is installed, I’ve been having the most blissful soaking sessions. Here’s a little glimpse at my heavenly bathing experiences:

Tranquil Bubble Massages – I fill up my tub with hot water, turn on the heated air jets, lean back, and let the streaming bubbles melt my stress away. It’s a full body massage that leaves me feeling relaxed and renewed. The soothing sound of the air jets adds to the zen atmosphere.

Restorative Soaks – There’s nothing like submerging your entire body in an oversized tub for restorative soaking. The spacious interior lets me fully extend and float comfortably in the heated, mineral-rich water. My muscles soak up the warmth and become loose and limber.

Spa-Like Pampering – With features like lights, jets, and aromatherapy, my bathroom truly feels like a spa now. I light some candles, play soft music, and treat myself to long, languid soaks. Taking time to soak and self-care makes me feel rejuvenated.

Blissful Bedtime Ritual – I like to take baths right before bed to help me unwind and relax. The warm water and bubbles make both my body and mind feel calm. After my skin has turned pruney, I’m ready for a deep, restful sleep.
