After years of trying to find the app that slowed down your PC in a long list, the Task Manager is getting a search bar in an upcoming Windows 11 update so you can quickly type and close the app in question.
According to Windows Latest (opens in new tab)this is currently a hidden feature in the Insider Builds (opens in new tab)which allows you to test features that may or may not appear for everyone in a future update.
However, a search bar in the Task Manager is something many have been asking for for a long time, so we don’t expect it to go away anytime soon.
This is just further proof of how Microsoft looks at the finer details in its existing apps to alleviate the frustrations many of us have had in Windows over the decades.
Task Manager gets better with every update
Task Manager is usually the ‘cure’ of Windows problems, which you can enter by pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETEor by right click on the taskbarand you can check your system’s resource usage or force quit an unresponsive app.
It wasn’t until the 2022 update, released in September 2022, that Task Manager saw a glow in its design to match the overall look and feel of Windows 11, in addition to some new features, and it was a welcome change after what felt like abandoned by Microsoft for so long.
While a search bar may sound like a standard feature in an age when you can ask voice assistants about the weather or do a Wikipedia search, Task Manager felt like an odd one out for this one.
However, once this future update arrives, you’ll probably wonder how you did without it and what else Task Manager might get in other updates.
