Reiss Nelson ‘REJECTS Arsenal contract offer’ with current deal up at the end of the season

Reiss Nelson ‘REJECTS a new contract offer from Arsenal’ with his current contract expiring at the end of the season…

Reiss Nelson has reportedly turned down a contract extension at Arsenal, casting further doubt on his future in north London.

The Gunners star has faced limited playing time in 2022/23 after struggling with injury and being overlooked amid the stunning form of fellow forwards Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

However, it was still thought that the club were eager to commit him to a longer contract, with his current contract with the Emirates coming to an end at the end of the season, only for their extension offer to be rejected. according to Fabrizio Romano.

Interest in Nelson is thought to be high as a number of teams monitor the situation, with Brighton one of the reported suitors, while Serie A giants AC Milan are also believed to be circling in circles.

The 23-year-old has failed to make a single Premier League start this season, although he has made occasional appearances off the bench; most notably scoring a dramatic late winner against Bournemouth to complete a 3–2 comeback in the 96th minute.

Mikel Arteta and Co will reportedly continue talks with Nelson through the end of the season

Mikel Arteta and Co will reportedly continue talks with Nelson through the end of the season

In fact, Nelson has been without a start in the Premier League since December 2019, having made six substitute appearances this season.

Still, the rejection of a contract offer is not considered the end of negotiations with Mikel Arteta’s side as talks are expected to continue until the end of the season.

However, should an agreement fail, Nelson would become a free agent and the Gunners would miss out on compensation for the highly regarded youngster.

Arsenal have let several players leave for nothing in recent years, such as Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

Nelson, along with academy graduate Ainsley Maitland-Niles, will leave The Gunners for free.

Nelson has spent his entire career on the books of Arsenal, only leaving on loan to Hoffenheim in 2018/19 and Feyenoord in 2021/22.

So far this season, the right winger has three Premier League goals and two assists, while also trailing Eddie Nketiah in a 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton in November.

The Gunners could also lose loanee Charlie Patino, who has impressed at Blackpool this season but will not be in Arteta’s plans for the first team next season.
