Reggaeton star Don Omar gives major health update after undergoing cancer surgery just one day following his shock diagnosis

Reggaeton singer Don Omar has revealed he is now cancer free following surgery.

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican star made the announcement Tuesday morning, just one day after he first shared that he was receiving treatment at Orlando Health in Orlando, Florida.

“Today I woke up cancer free and grateful,” Omar captioned a photo in Spanish of him showing a peace sign.

“Thank you for your well wishes, prayers and thousands of messages,” he added. ‘My operation was a success and now I have to recover.’

Omar, whose real name is William Omar Landrón Rivera, has not revealed any details about his diagnosis.

The shocking news comes as he resumes the second leg of his ‘Back to Reggaeton’ concert tour in Oakland, California on August 7, the first of 18 shows before wrapping up in Belmont Park, New York on September 15. will also hold several concerts in Puerto Rico later this year.

One of the pioneers of the genre, Omar was showered with support from the music industry and fans.

‘Let’s go champion! God is good!’ wrote Tito El Bambino, who at the beginning of his career had Omar as a backing singer while he formed a duo with Hector El Father.

“Amen my brother (.) I hope you recover quickly,” reggaeton producer Luny Tunes added.

“We love you,” said Cuban reggaeton duo Gente de Zona. ‘See you very soon with God’s favor.’

On Saturday, Omar appeared cheerful in an Instagram video clip from a recent audition for backup dancers for a new series of concerts.

“The most special thing about today’s auditions is that I see that there are people who want to dare to dream with me,” he said. ‘Thank you to everyone who gave it their all on the dance floor! This second leg of the tour comes with everything.”

Known as the ‘King of Reggaeton’, Omar has won seventeen Billboard Latin Music Awards, three Latin Grammy Awards and one Billboard Music Award since breaking into the music world in the 2000s. He also played the role of ‘Rico Santos’ in the Fast & Furious franchise.

His first studio album in 2003, The Last Don, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. His next project, King of Kings, became the highest full-length reggaeton album to reach the top 10 of the US charts.

Omar released his seventh studio album, Forever King, in 2023, followed by a twenty-date tour of the United States and Canada, which ran from March 7 to April 21.
