Reeva Steenkamp's mother says she has 'lost hope' that Oscar Pistorius will ever reveal the truth about the night he killed her daughter and blames him for her husband's death – as Blade Runner prepares for its release tomorrow
The mother of the model killed by Oscar Pistorius says she has lost hope that the 'Blade Runner' will ever reveal the truth about the night he shot her daughter – ahead of the disgraced Olympian's release from prison tomorrow .
The double amputee athlete, who shot to fame when he ran at the Olympics with carbon fiber prosthetic legs, will leave Atteridgeville prison tomorrow morning after serving just over half of his 13 years and five months sentence for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
British-born June Steenkamp today told Mail Online how Pistorius, 37, not only took Reeva away from her, but how she also blames the runner for her husband's later death – and further believes he ruined her dream to have grandchildren.
She said: 'If she had never met Oscar, I imagine Reeva would be happily married today, a loving young mother with everything to live for, and lots of cats and dogs, with maybe a horse or two.
'Reeva's dream was to become a mother, because she loved children so much and told me and her father that her own babies would make her life complete.'

British-born June Steenkamp (seen left in 2014 comforting her husband Barry) today told Mail Online how Pistorius, 37, not only took Reeva from her, but how she also blames the runner for her subsequent death from her husband – and further believes he killed her dream of having grandchildren
Ms Steenkamp said today from her home in Port Elizabeth that Pistorius had taken the life of not only Reeva but also her husband Barry, who died last September after a decade of ill health following the murder of his daughter.
She and her late husband had also faced a terrible campaign from Pistorius supporters and trolls who had abused them online.
She continued: “Barry and I had been so looking forward to becoming grandparents to Reeva's children. I have no doubt that if she had met the right man, our dreams would have come true.
“But as it is, Reeva is gone and her beloved father Barry is gone. He died in September this year of what I believe to be a broken heart.
'He never got over Reeva's death and especially not the terrible way her life ended. And of course, the little babies we all dreamed of remained just that: a dream.”
She said Reeva's life was taken just as she was about to become a big star in South Africa and worldwide.
'Ten years ago, Reeva first broke through as a big star as a participant in a reality show on TV.
'The viewers loved Reeva, she was so beautiful, smart, funny and compassionate: they knew a kindred spirit.
'Reeva's performances generated enormous interest; producers all over the world wanted her and she was offered so many contracts.
'Her modeling career also took off and she was the cover girl they all wanted.
'She had overcome so many adversities, she had a broken back when she fell from a horse a few years earlier and that had slowed her progress, but in 2013 she finally enjoyed the success she deserved.
“Her vision was to build a public profile and then work as a lawyer so she could help abused men, women and children. Even animals. On weekends she walked the animals at the animal shelter.
'Reeva loved life. She was empathetic and wanted to help everyone. I think she would have been a successful lawyer because she achieved so many accolades during law school.”
Ms Steenkamp is particularly bitter because she believes the runner will be released, despite never being honest about how he came to kill Reeva.

Pistorius has stuck by his story that he accidentally shot the law graduate after mistaking her for an intruder at his Pretoria flat in the early hours of Valentine's Day 2013.
He was initially convicted of manslaughter in 2014, but found guilty of murder a year later after prosecutors appealed.
She said: 'I have lost all hope that Oscar Pistorius will ever reveal the truth about what happened that night.'
Mr Steenkamp met a tearful Pistorius in 2022 but did not admit to deliberately shooting his daughter despite the father's pleas.
The sprinter had agreed to meet the Steenkamps in prison as part of South Africa's victims-offenders dialogue programme.
The killer had to convince Mr Steenkamp that he acknowledged the damage he had caused.
Pistorius was flown from Pretoria to a detention center near their home in Port Elizabeth. Reeva's mother decided she felt she couldn't meet him because of the pain he had caused her and the anger she still carried.
But her husband finally wanted to know the truth and left feeling like he had been lied to.
Pistorius has consistently claimed that he shot Reeva through a toilet door after being woken by a noise and thinking an intruder was hiding in his toilet.
But Ms Steenkamp told Mail Online: 'There was an argument. Neighbors heard screams – a woman's scream – Reeva's scream. I believe the neighbors.
'I believe Reeva wanted to leave him that night and out of fear she ran to the toilet to hide from him. The evidence in court leaves no doubt that he knew it was Reeva behind the toilet door when he fired four black claw bullets through the door.
'Those bullets explode when they hit human flesh. He knows guns, and he knew what those bullets would do to my beautiful daughter. He knew it would kill her.”
Ms Steenkamp, from Blackburn, Lancashire, said it was her own faith that allowed her to forgive Pistorius for her daughter's murder.

“My Christianity requires that I forgive. I forgave Oscar a long time ago. I forgive for my own sake, not for his sake.
'Forgiveness doesn't mean he doesn't have to pay for what he did. Not only did Oscar take Reeva's life when he murdered Reeva in cold blood, he also took Barry and my life. Our joy, our future grandchildren.
“He also took away our privacy. We have been criticized and insulted by some members of the public, who victimized Barry and me, as if we were the ones who had done something wrong.
“(It was as if) as if we were the ones who had pulled the trigger four times through a closed door and killed an innocent person.”
