Vote Tracy! She is in the works in a sequel to the cult comedy Election with Reese Witherspoon returning as the overly ambitious Tracy Flick.

The film, like its predecessor, is based on the novel by Tom Perrotta. Perrotta, who published Choice in 1998, recently released Tracy Flick Can’t Win, which follows Tracy in middle age as a hard-working high school vice principal seeking the job of principal.

But, just like his high school choice, he faces obstacles in getting promoted.

“As she considers the past, Tracy realizes the storm clouds looming in the present. Is she really a safe bet for the lead job? Is the Superintendent plotting against her? Why does the School Board President’s wife try so hard to be her friend? And why can she never get what she deserves? she reads a description of the book.

The original film starred Reese as the overachiever Tracy, who is running for student body president against high school jock Paul Metzler (Chris Klein) and her sister Tammy Metzler, played by Jessica Campbell, who passed away at age 38 in 2020.

Back for More: Witherspoon will reprise the role of Tracy and will also serve as a producer on the project alongside Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine.

But social studies teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) holds a grudge against Tracy and tries to thwart her chances for victory behind the scenes.

Despite Jim’s scheming, Tracy ends up winning the election and goes on to do bigger things, while Jim ends up suffering the consequences of his meddling.

While the film flopped at the box office, it earned rave reviews and currently has a 92% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.

Curveball: Matthew Broderick played social studies teacher Jim McAllister, who holds a grudge against Tracy and tries to thwart her chances for victory behind the scenes.

Recalling Reese’s performance, author Perrotta said ew in 2019: “I’ve only been out on set once, but to see Reese Witherspoon just vibrating with energy, you just felt it when you saw her.”

‘Something incredible is happening here. Twenty years later, it is still this iconic portrayal of a female politician that has become something of a watchword in today’s culture.”

Reese has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood since she played Tracy Flick.

He achieved superstar status after Legally Blonde, and in 2006 he won an Oscar for Walk The Line. She now acts alongside Jennifer Aniston on The Morning Show.

The adventures continue: the next film is based on the sequel to Tom Perrotta’s Choice, Tracy Flick Can’t Win.
