NRL star Reece Walsh wants the Brisbane Broncos to give Ezra Mam a second chance and not tear up the troubled player’s $4 million contract after an off-field incident.

Mom is currently awaiting the results of a secondary drug test after reportedly failing a roadside drug test following a head-on car crash.

The police assume that the 21-year-old also drove the car without a driver’s license.

Queensland Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are investigating the incident, which puts the star five-eighth’s contract with the Broncos in jeopardy.

Mom recently entered a rehabilitation center and Walsh believes his friend deserves a lifeline.

“I feel for Ezra, he’s a great person to begin with,” Walsh told the BBC Courier mail.

‘He is going through a difficult time at the moment and everyone at this club sympathizes with him.

“They know this guy Ezra and how caring he is. We stand behind him and it is important that we are there for him and support him.

Mum is said to have failed a roadside drug test in Brisbane on October 18 following the car crash

“Ezra is an amazing person and anyone who has had a real conversation with him or met him will understand that.

“In this case, he made a bad decision, but that doesn’t define who he is as a person or define the future. I know he will learn from it.

“He will take the actions necessary to come back the right way.”

Mom’s management released a statement last week saying the star is seeking “immediate professional treatment” at a rehabilitation center.

If Mam is not moved from Red Hill, the Broncos face the prospect of the NRL banning him before the start of the 2025 season.

Coach Michael Maguire believes responsibility is key for Mam.

‘People will make mistakes, but they also have to acknowledge them. That’s the most important thing, if he owns where he is,” he said.

‘His actions in the future are very important. I know he is currently getting help as to where he is. “If he works through that, I’ll spend some time with him.

“He has to go through a process with the police, the game and the (Broncos) themselves… wherever that ends up, we’ll move on with what we have.”
