A bride-to-be was left furious when her pregnant cousin made an ‘outrageous’ request to reveal the gender of her child at the wedding.
The engaged couple had been planning the dream day for almost two years and were looking forward to celebrating it with their loved ones.
However, the 25-year-old bride was surprised when her cousin wanted to make ‘the event all about her’ and her unborn child.
“My fiancé and I have been dreaming of this perfect outdoor ceremony with all of our closest family and friends, and honestly, I couldn’t be more excited. But this is where things get crazy,” the bride wrote on Reddit.
Out of the blue, the cousin, 27, called and asked, “Hey, I was thinking, wouldn’t it be great if we did the gender reveal at your wedding?”
The request left the bride stunned and seeing red.
She starts talking about how perfect it would be to have a “big moment” where everyone finds out the gender at my reception and how I “should totally do a balloon release or confetti pop for her.” Like this is HER day!’ she continued.
She tried to be nice to her cousin and explained that the wedding should focus only on the happy couple. But the cousin didn’t take this well.

‘I thought she would understand, but she got angry. She started accusing me of ‘stealing her joy’, ‘not supporting her’ and saying I was ‘selfish’ for not wanting to be in the spotlight on my wedding day.”
Now the whole family is divided and arguing over the issue.
Some said the bride was being unreasonable and tried to convince her to compromise. While others strongly disagreed and found it inappropriate.
“So now I’m sitting here wondering: Am I the asshole for not wanting a gender reveal to hijack my wedding?” she asked.
More than 3,400 Redditors flooded the comments on the post, sharing their advice — and the majority suggested not inviting the cousin.

‘Invite her. Tell all the flying monkeys that, without apology, this is your wedding and not her gender reveal. She is welcome to host any event for her gender reveal, but you won’t allow her to hijack your wedding so she doesn’t have to go to the trouble and expense,” one person wrote.
“It’s a bloody cheek to even cast a shadow over your wedding day with this enormous right.”
Another agreed, saying: ‘Uninviting is the only way. She’ll definitely do it anyway, not to mention she’ll definitely highjack the band/DJ and photographer. God knows what else.”
“I could also ask my cousin for half the cost of the wedding since they are sharing the event – bet that ends the argument,” a third wrote.
Someone else was shocked and said: ‘Imagine planning a wedding for two years so someone can turn it into a baby shower? No, your cousin can celebrate her moment another time, not on your big day.’
‘Your wedding, your day. If she wants a gender reveal, she can plan her own event. It’s beyond rude to expect you to share your spotlight. Not everything has to revolve around her,” wrote another.
‘A wedding is about the couple getting married. So no proposals, no pregnancy announcements and no crazy gender reveals,” one person added.
Others also encouraged the bride to hire security for the event.
