A young mother has shocked her family after revealing the ‘terrible’ name she gave her newborn baby.
The 20-year-old gave birth to a little girl last month and told no one the name she had chosen before signing all the official documents.
She wanted to name the baby after her grandparents Harvey and Charlotte, so she mixed them up as ‘Harlotte’.
She had never encountered the word “whore,” which means “prostitute” or “sexually promiscuous.”
The woman’s cousin shared the details Reddit and explained how the family reacted to the news.

The cousin claimed, “She didn’t tell anyone the name idea until after she was named and the papers were signed.
“My mother burst out, ‘YOU CALL THE BABY WHORE?’ and my cousin started screaming. This poor child. Whore. HARLOTTE.’
Many Redditors were quick to point out that “Charvey,” “Charley,” or “Harley” would have been a better choice if they had combined the two names.
“Tough times ahead for the poor kid,” one commented, while another said, “That’s such a shame.” That poor child.’
‘Normally I’m against shaming baby names, but that’s terrible. And if this is real they should change that poor kid’s name,” a third wrote.
Another wondered if it was necessary to name the baby after others.
‘Oh, that poor baby. When choosing a baby name, there are certain things you need to consider,” someone else wrote.
Earlier this year, experts listed the baby names that are at risk of extinction by 2024 – and the names Millennial and Gen Z are both among the victims.
The parenting website team Baby center analyzed baby names from the past two years and found that while ‘classic’ names like Diana, Amanda and Aiden were on the rise, so were ‘trendy’ names like Mckenzie, Brady and Oaklee.
Today’s parents, Generation Y (also known as Millennials), are not only choosing new and different names, but are also creating a new and unique generation: Generation Alpha.
Trends show that the generation born since 2010 will be the most digital, global and visual generation in the world.
When they are all born (2025), they will number almost two billion people – the largest generation in the history of the world.
